Ocimum basilicum
A mild, sweet taste that is perfect for folks who love basil’s flavor. It is excellent in a variety of dishes, including pesto, pasta, and salads and makes a lovely pink vinegar or oil. Grow as a companion plant for your tomatoes or as an ornamental. Try pairing it with French Marigold Lemon Drop or Bells of Ireland for eye‑popping color.

Harvest and Preserving Tips
Basil is typically harvested before the plant flowers. Flavor is best when harvested in the morning. The young, top leaves taste the best and should be used fresh; the older leaves may be used for vinegar and pesto. Cut a few stems but never more than 1/3 of the plant. Wash stems, gently shake dry, and strip the leaves off the stem. If there is any chance of frost (38 degress Fahrenheit and below), harvest crop immediately; basil is VERY frost sensitive.
